Joy to Our World

I read with delight this letter to the editor from the founder of Joy regarding the story “English teachers warn of bad treatment in China“. The founder of Joy writes, “We feel that this mistake could have been avoided had the writer decided to dig deeper and not succumb to sensationalistic reporting.” Well, killjoy, the article states, “The manager of the Joy chain did not respond to interview requests.” That was your chance to let the writer dig deeper. Duh.

She also states, “It is unfortunate that the article has caused great damage to our hard-earned reputation.” That’s right, they’ve got a reputation to protect. They would never do anything bad, like hire illegal English teachers. I don’t know anyone that’s ever worked there illegally, no sir. Especially the Neihu branch, oh no. Cuz that would be breaking the law.

Peggy Huang evidently knows nothing, nor cares, about what goes on in Joy schools in Taiwan, or mainland.

Rather than immediately defending the school and pointing the finger at the ‘loser foreigner’, she should launch an investigation into this incident. Talk about one sided.

The bottom line is profit for these sweatshop ENglish schools. Huang is worried that her profit margin will go down and has absolutely NO CONCERN regarding whether the claims this teacher or others have made about the substandard conditions is true or not.

Greedy cows, the lot of them.
