Another Reason Not to Watch TV

January 21st, 2007 · 2 Comments

Geffen Records chairman Ron Fair defending the criticism American Idol judges lash out at contestants: “In order to have a reputation and continue in a healthy manner in this business, you have to tell people `no’ all day long,” he said. “I’m telling people ‘I’m not going to sign you, that song is not a hit’ … And there’s no gracious or wonderful way to tell somebody, whose hopes and dreams are on the line: `no.’”

Actually, there is a gracious way to tell them no–you just say, “Sorry, but you’re not what we’re looking for”.

But wouldn’t it be fun to crash a few people’s dreams in new and creative ways? Not everybody’s … just the ones who are already acting like primadonnas when they come in to meet with you. Don’t you wish that somebody, just somebody, had done an intervention of this kind to half the rock stars who supposedly “made it”?

Actually, there’s no reason to watch the show except to watch Simon trash people as being “atroucious”. That’s the only way the show gets ratings and the only reason I watch it. And the fact that there’s always the luster of Paula Abdul sleeping with one of the contestants.
