While Beijing and Shanghai are impressive the difference between them and Taipei is that Taipei wasn't built on artificial growth whereas in the mainland 70% of GDP is in the form of government spending on construction and infrastructure instead of private consumption. A look at per capita GDP or income sheds more light on the disparity between the ROC and the PRC. Glad someone else out there is fighting the same fight as me...
